Getting to Nijmegen

Most of you will be arriving at Amsterdam Schiphol airport. The easiest way to get to Nijmegen from there is by train. The train station is under the airport (follow the train signs). Take a train to Duivendrecht (so not to Amsterdam Central Station) and change trains here (go one level up) to go in the direction Utrecht. From Duivendrecht there are direct trains to Nijmegen (via Arnhem). You may also take a train to Utrecht and change trains to Nijmegen there.
Especially on Duivendrecht station and on the trains from Schiphol to Duivendrecht be aware of pick-pockets. Keep an eye on your luggage at all times!!
The train trip is 1 hour and 30 - 45 minutes. A typical trip is the following:
18:10 Schiphol (train in the direction Hilversum)
18:23 Duivendrecht
Change train
18:29 Duivendrecht (train in the direction direction Utrecht CS)
19:41 Nijmegen

Strippenkaart

If you think that you might be using trams and buses more than 3 times in the Netherlands, you can save yourself money by buying a strippenkaart. These are available at train stations, tourist office, news-agents, tobacconists and some other shops. A 15-strippenkaart costs Euros 5,90 and is valid for 5 journeys if you're traveling between Nijmegen and Berg en Dal. For journeys inside Nijmegen you'll be traveling one zone (een zone). This will cost you 2 strips of your strippenkaart. For journeys between Nijmegen and Berg en Dal you'll be traveling two zones (twee zones.) This will cost you 3 strips of your strippenkaart. Ask the driver for advice if you're not sure how many zones you are traveling. If you're traveling by bus, the driver will stamp your ticket for you. Every time you stamp your strippenkaart it is valid for use on any other bus for 1 - 1 1/2 hours.
